The most heartbreaking thing is knowing that Cesar will harbor so much guilt for how his brother died. And be sure to check out our fall 2021 schedule for more info on the new and returning shows that’ll air during this TV season. It serves as a reality check that there are rarely happy endings with the gang lifestyle, and even Oscar getting out of it didn't spare him the worst fate. You can stream all four seasons on Netflix now. The final season of On My Block may not have panned out the way some fans imagined it would, yet it still provided a mostly satisfying final chapter for the show. But with the upcoming spinoff series Freeridge now in development, there’s a chance the quest may be completed by a new generation of kids. It remains to be seen as to whether the Core Four will end up finding the money themselves as, by the end of the series, they’ve made future plans that will take them away from their hometown. However, in the final moments of the series finale, Ruby reveals that his recently departed Abuelita (R.I.P.) bequeathed a gift to them, which turns out to be a map leading to the RollerWorld money. But in the end, none seem to know where it is. Another flashback also shows that Cesar believed Oscar had it. As mentioned, the Santos gang reclaimed the money, and a flashback revealed that Ruby and Jamal came into conflict with Cesar over the stash, accusing him of stealing it. This is actually one of the few loose ends that isn’t resolved by the end of On My Block. Ricky eventually heads back to Bakersfield, as the four teens head home, now seemingly stronger than ever. He advises them to hold on to each other, saying that he himself should’ve remained close to his loved ones like Chivo. However, what amazes him even more is that the four managed to hold on to their friendship, despite having gone their separate ways for two years. It’s there that the gang explains how they found the RollerWorld money, which impresses the man. The “Core Four” meets up with Ricky the following day at Chivo’s house, where Jamal plays 20 (to 100) Questions with him. He does, however, get another chance to meet the man behind the myth. Unfortunately, the overzealous kid doesn’t get the first impression he wanted, as he apparently meets Ricky over Zoom during a drug-induced night. As you’d expect, this leaves Jamal excited and eager to meet the legend he’s been chasing for years. How Lil’ Ricky Meets The Rest Of The Freeridge GangĬesar eventually makes his way back to Freeridge to scatter his brother’s ashes, with his friends accompanying him and, during the “ceremony” he reveals that he found Lil’ Ricky. So how was the mystery wrapped up in Season 4? Let’s take a look: Though it’s later hinted that he’s still among the living and, along the way, fans also learn that he’s the cousin of the eccentric Chivo. Still, the man who orchestrated the heist was never seen and was believed to have died like his accomplices. Years later, Jamal, despite his friends’ doubts, embarked on a quest to find it and eventually did, before the cash was reclaimed by the Santos. In the early ‘80s, he and two of his cohorts, Frankie and Benito, stole a massive sum of money from RollerWorld, a local Freeridge establishment, and hid it away. Just to refresh your memory, Lil’ Ricky was the founder of the infamous Santos gang. Well, the show finally provided some closure on that front, in a way that some fans may not have expected. One of these storylines is the saga revolving around the RollerWorld heist and the elusive Lil’ Ricky, whose shadow has loomed large over the series. The final season adds new elements to the show’s mythology, yet it also sought to tie up some loose ends that fans have long wanted resolved. Monsé, Ruby, Jamal, Cesar and their friends and family from Freeridge have taken their final bow, and the result is ultimately a worthy (and somewhat uneven) send-off for the Netflix dramedy. After four hilarious and heartfelt seasons, On My Block has reached its conclusion.

These prerequisites were impossible to achieve without constructive American involvement in the rebuilding of the post-war order (Maier 1981). The reconstruction of Western Europe required the abolition of the command economy and the liberalisation of prices and wages the elimination of the dollar shortage to enable countries ravaged by war to import the capital goods necessary to rebuild their infrastructure and restock their factories the restoration of the European division of labour and international cooperation to resolve the German question and remobilise German industry (Milward 1987, Eichengreen 2007). By 1947, industrial production was back at pre-war levels in at least the victorious powers and the non-belligerent economies.Ĭontinued revival and the resumption of economic growth were held back by institutional and geopolitical factors rather than the lack of productive capacity. But the maintenance of wartime command-economy controls and warlike labour mobilisation swiftly eliminated these bottlenecks and avoided the acute shortages that might have fuelled social unrest and runaway inflation, as Europe had experienced at the end of WWI (Boltho 2001). Industrial production had been brought to a halt by the demolition of the transport infrastructure, in particular bridges and railway hubs. Power-generating capacity was also enlarged and needed little repair. Even in Germany and Italy, the two main targets of Allied strategic bombing, industrial fixed capital grew by 20% and 30%, respectively, between 19. Despite the scale of material damage, industrial equipment and plants survived the war remarkably intact. Across Western Europe, the casualties of war were more than offset by natural population growth and post-war mass migration. There is consensus in the more recent historiography of post-war Europe that the foundations of economic life remained strong. The quarter-century that followed would be engraved in collective memory as the most remarkable era of macroeconomic stability and social progress in the history of the western world (Milward 1992) and as the ‘golden age of economic growth’ in Europe, both East and West (Crafts 2018). Most economies shattered by war returned to pre-war levels of output within five years. That a Europe more prosperous than ever would emerge from this apocalypse astonished the world. The enormous firepower of industrial warfare and aerial bombardment “brought physical destruction that few could have imagined and few imagined could be overcome in their lifetime” (Vonyó 2018). Millions of children across the continent would grow up without a father. After the war had ended in Europe, 12 million Germans were held as Allied prisoners of war, 2 million of them never to return home. Tens of millions more were displaced and haunted by the oppressions of war, men wearing the scars of battle and women scarred by the humiliation of abuse at the hands of the enemy or their own husbands returning from the torments of frontline service. The majority of the military casualties were citizens of the Soviet Union, China, Germany, and Japan, but the dead were mourned the world over (Weinberg 2005). The six years of carnage incinerated 60 million souls, among them 6 million Jews. The struggle of Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan for global supremacy exhausted the human and economic resources of much of Europe as well as East and Southeast Asia (Boldorf and Okazaki 2015). The world war that began 80 years ago when the German armoured divisions crossed the Oder – and ended with a surrender act aboard a warship in Tokyo Bay – was the worst of all wars, ‘the War of the World’ that brought the ‘descent of the West’ (Ferguson 2006). You know how it is, never-ending projects! I keep holding out hope we would be replacing the carpets but I don’t think that will happen anytime soon. In fact, we still have 4 transition strips to install if I’m being completely honest. However, I still need to get the transition strip installed from the hallway to his room. I also updated the trim around his door which has been painted since this picture was taken. I made this Wall Ladder for $20 that you can see here. Since I got rid of one of the dressers I need a space for him to still be able to display pictures and trophies. Once it was all secured with a nail gun I applied two coats of primer. In order to do this, I cut two pieces that were 8″ in length and used that as my spacer. I ripped 1″ thick x 3″ wide pieces of wood I already had, however some of the tutorials I read used 1″x2″ MDF Strips. So I started searching Pinterest and found this technique that is being referred to as “Reverse Shiplap”.īasically, it’s just using 2″ wide strips across the wall. However, I felt it would be too feminine. I would have all the interior walls in my home ship-lapped if my husband would let me. I REALLY wanted to shiplap the main wall in his room. Once they were installed I stood there for 5 minutes sliding them back and forth amazed at how smooth they rolled. These doors were made for about $70 each. I LOVE Barn doors and there are not many places in our home we can have them, but for a closet we can. They were never installed correctly and always rubbed against each other. Giuliani's post-election work has made him a key figure in several federal and state probes. “I call on rank-and-file members of the DC Bar Association to speak out against this great injustice,” Goodman said in a statement. Ted Goodman, a political adviser to Giuliani, criticized the panel's work as an attempt to persecute Giuliani and “part of a larger effort to deny President Trump effective counsel.” The Washington review panel's work will now go to the D.C. So, as well as spinning like a volume knob – to scroll up and down a bank of menus – it moves forward, backwards, left and right so you can quickly jump between menu hubs. Meanwhile, its fixed menus are like the railway tracks to a touchscreen's winding country road – it's impossible to fall off them with an errant finger tap. The fixed control never moves and because it has a physical form to hold onto, it's easy for your hand to reach for as your driving. If you've ever tried to operate a touchscreen while you're driving – glancing from the road to the screen to the road again – while simultaneously holding your left (and most peoples' weaker) hand dead steady as you jiggle down the road, you'll know how infuriatingly tricky it can be. The iDrive scroll wheel remains the central pillar of how you control your BMW, however, and it's easy to see why. It's a scroll wheel that sits between the front seats of your BMW, a fixed point that's much easier to use (as you bump down the road) than a touchscreen that needs a sniper-like steady hand to navigate efficiently.īut how exactly do you operate iDrive, what features are hidden in its menus, what problems might you encounter and what lies in iDrive's future? Read on for the answers to all those questions.Īt its very simplest level, you operate BMW iDrive using the scroll wheel control on your BMW's centre console, however the introduction of touchscreens and pads, gesture controls and voice commands mean the scroller is just one of many ways to operate the infotainment screen. One feature has consistently remained throughout this development, though – the iDrive control. Now, the entry-level BMW 1 Series is blessed with an infotainment system that is vastly superior to what we first saw in 2001. This was the first in a series of improvements that have continued in to the current day, helped by the fact that smartphones mean we're all now comfortable with a screen-based interface. It was a clunky, buggy affair with unintuitive menus that took an age to master, but it was hugely improved when the saloon was facelifted in 2005. It was this question that BMW attempted to answer when it launched its iDrive control and infotainment screen on the BMW 7 Series in 2001. Because an infotainment screen is multifunctional, it can store away an infinite number of features on its hub screens and sub menus – the trouble is, how do you make a maze of menus and submenus easy to navigate? Particularly when you're focussing on the rather important job of driving? Infotainment is the answerīut how do you have space for all the toys while simultaneously making your car feel plush? An infotainment screen is the answer. A dashboard crawling with controls wouldn't leave space for the posh metal, leather and cloth trims that make a modern car such a nice place to sit. Advancements in technology mean modern cars have so many features – sat nav, autonomous driving aids, infotainment, etc etc etc– that to give a button for each would leave your dashboard looking as intimidating as the flight deck on a 747 jumbo jet. Buttons and switches were a badge of honour that showed how far you'd ventured up the range or into the options list. Lowly models had fewer buttons and less features, while flagship cars had a sea of buttons needed to control their vast number of features. Not too long ago, your car was judged by the number of buttons it had on its dashboard. IDrive is the name given to BMW's infotainment system, but how does it work, how can you control it and what is it capable of? Keep reading to find out.īMW's iDrive infotainment system and control was pioneered in 2001's BMW 7 Series – the company's flagship saloon – since then it has evolved into a completely different animal, one that's fitted to every BMW model from the entry-level BMW 1 Series up to the BMW 8 Series flagship, here's all you need to know about it. Each of the five friends is identifiably dressed as one of the show's major characters as they're singing, while the visuals of the actual Westworld intro play in the top-middle square. This is one of my favourite orchestral covers from Westworld. The a cappella vocals are excellent, but perhaps the best part is their meticulous set-up for the video. A piano cover of Ramin Djawadis orchestral arrangement of Paint it Black by The Rolling Stones. The five friends used the varying pitches of their voices to harmonize and mimic the piano and strings used in Djawadi's theme for the show. The Warp Zone – a YouTube channel self-described as a "nerdy sketch comedy, gaming, and music video channel brought to you by five lifelong friends Davis, Schroeder, Ryan, Fish, and Odom" – sang a version of Westworld's ridiculously catchy instrumental theme. An a cappella version of the Westworld's intro theme is making the rounds on the internet, and it's amazing. Now, one of Djawadi's own original creations is getting a cover. The score elevated a few of the already-epic and most memorable Season 1 moments – "Paint It Black" playing over Hector's introduction/shoot-out was a stroke of sheer genius. Ramin Djawadi (who also composes Game of Thrones' music) scored the show, creating a number of gorgeous instrumental covers of existing popular songs for it. When almost everyone is a cylon, then no one is a cylon. As anyone who aggressively devoured the first season of HBO's new hit series Westworld is well aware, the show's score is one of its crowning glories. Im hoping Westworld has learned from that, and will not make every other character turn out to be a robot. |
